Monmouth Park – Sports betting was considered illegal in the United States with the exception of Nevada as it has become the central hub for gambling in the country. However, New Jersey has contested this hotly debated 1992 federal law that banned the states from allowing sports betting in their areas.

CBS New York’s, Meg Baker, was given a sneak preview of the sports betting site in Monmouth Park in preparation of the roll out of the legislation where the state will be legalizing sports betting. Monmouth Park was the first site in New Jersey that accepts wagers on sports after the ruling of the Supreme Court. Inside the park is a huge display where current games are listed as well as the odds that are being offered.
There are six counters inside where ticket riders will be accepting wagers with 15 more windows located outside for easier access to bettors. The odds boards will post all the information for their customers so they can easily determine where to place their bets. Betting sheets are also provided so everyone gets the chance to see all the important information they need before placing their bets on their favorite team, player, and the like. The ticket riders in Monmouth Park are on-hand to assist bettors which makes everything look seamless.
New Jersey Governor Legalizes Sports Betting In New Jersey
New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy, signed the Assembly Bill 4111 that allows casinos and racetracks in Atlantic City and the entire state to offer sports betting to attract more businesses and patrons that will help boost their economy in the long run.
Dennis Drazin, the chairman and CEO of Darby Development LLC that operates Monmouth Park, wished for Gov. Murphy to be the one to place the first bet when they open their door to the public and start accepting wagers on different sports. The Governor, as well as other personalities, were happy to oblige as Monmouth Park launched a month after the Supreme Court has removed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) last May.
According to Drazin, this was a huge move to the sports betting community, and with Governor Murphy sealing the deal, casinos and racetracks are in a better position to offer another source of revenue to its people. This wasn’t possible without the votes of the locals as stated by Drazin in his opening speech in Monmouth Park.
Can Monmouth Park Launch Online Sports Betting In Time?
When asked when Monmouth Park will be able to offer online sports betting, Dennis Drazint said that he was confident that they will be able to launch in time of the football season. There was no question that Monmouth Park was the first site in New Jersey to accept wagers in sports betting but many are wondering as to why it was now lagging behind other casinos in offering sports betting online.
DraftKings Sportsbook beat them to the punch by scoring ahead of its competitors with its first mobile sports app in New Jersey. It has been weeks now and DraftKings are still enjoying their lead against other casinos and racetracks, including Monmouth Park. Right behind DraftKings are SugarHouse Sportsbook and PlayMGM which had just launched their own mobile sports betting apps. There is still no sign of Monmouth Park.
It seems that Monmouth Park is targeting their launch in time of the football season but with College Football happening soon, it is only logical that Drazin and his team will move their launch before the NFL season which is happening on September 6. There is no doubt that the NFL season has become the most lucrative in the sports betting circle and it seems that the team in Monmouth Park are working double time to reach their deadline.
Still, there is no public announcement as to when they will launch their online sports betting, and if they don’t make it in time, Monmouth Park will be doing a lot of catching up with its competitors soon.
